Pro Athlete reaches out to area teens with positive messages on leadership & faith

SEATTLE, WA – March 26, 2013 – Eddie J. Williams, Fullback of the National Football League Cleveland Browns, announced this week his calling as Young Adult Pastor of Mountain Vineyard Christian Fellowship in Covington, WA. The group will have a special event this weekend, a Saturday Night Easter service for all who want to attend called “Rise” at 7:00pm at the church, where they will be performing Baptisms, while celebrating Christ.

Williams, who resides in Seattle in the off-season, became a Christian at the age of eighteen while at university, after a turbulent childhood in which he grew up poor, and in rough neighborhoods. Williams’ young adult group, called REACH, which the former Seattle Seahawks player runs along with his leadership team, currently as a growing membership of over forty-five area youth attendees each Wednesday at 7:00pm.

Twenty-year old group attendee Justin Blair said, “It’s awesome to see a young adult’s pastor like Eddie so driven to connect with the youth on a personal level while still unapologetically speaking the truth about Jesus.”

Williams is currently enrolled at the Resurgence Training Center (Re:Train) at Mars Hill in Seattle, and will pursue his Masters in Divinity at Western Seminary in Portland. Williams’ underlined his purpose by stating, “Our goal is to give the youth a perspective on the unchanging word of Jesus. They are being fed from so many different sources in our culture. It’s time they receive the only thing that really matters: God.”

Williams received his Bachelor of Arts in Communications Studies from the University of Idaho, and played on the Idaho Vandals football team. He was a three-time team captain and team leader for the Vandals, season MVP, two-time Most Inspirational Player, and Offensive Player of the Year. In 2008 Eddie was first team all-conference and All-American, with over 100 receptions as a running back, wide receiver, and tight end, together with and over 30 carries and 15 touchdowns. He was drafted to the NFL in the 7th round by the Washington Redskins in 2009.

When Williams is not training or playing football, he finds time to speak at other churches, ministries, conferences, high schools and colleges across the country. Williams has been a part of numerous programs for youth, including the NFL’s Play60, and supports organizations such as Cleveland Foodbank, Feed My Starving Children and Veterans hospitals. He is currently writing his first book, of which he hopes to finish before the start of the NFL’s 2013 season, and is a featured blogger for the Christian Post.
