Former NFL Player Robert Mackey to Host Celebrity Weekend August 12 - 14

Events to Benefit the Lydia W. Smith Foundation Supporting Sickle Cell Anemia Patients

CHICAGO, IL – August 1, 2011 – Former NFL player Robert L. Mackey will host the 1st Annual J-Zemar Celebrity Weekend, a series of celebrity events on August 12 thru August 14, 2011 to benefit his Lydia W. Smith Foundation, which supports Sickle Cell Anemia. The foundation has partnered with Sickle Cell Disease Assoc. of Illinois (SCDAI) to provide insurance or insurance payment relief for patients with financial problems.

The weekend of events will include an exclusive private rooftop Cocktail Reception at the Conrad Hotel in Chicago, with a performance by R&B Singer/Actor Keith Robinson (Aug. 12). A Celebrity Charity Bowling event at Lucky Strike - River East Center hosted by NFL Alumni Chicago, followed by a VIP Reception at RockIt Ranch and a VIP After party at Underground Chicago (Aug. 13). The grand finale will be “Casino Day” at Horseshoe Casino, and then a Sendoff Party at Mercadito’s Double A Lounge (Aug.14).

Invited guests includes: Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, Jeremy Piven, Anthony Anderson, Rockmond Dunbar, Jason Richardson, Lamman Rucker, and Malina Rojel. The events are presented by Trump and sponsored by Gilt Group, NFL Alumni Chicago, Horseshoe Casino, Moet Hennessy, Blue Dragon Vodka and J. Zemar Premium Brand.

The only known cure at present for Sickle Cell Anemia, diagnosed in a simple blood test, is bone marrow transplant. Sickle cell anemia is a blood disorder that affects hemoglobin, the protein found in red blood cells that help carry oxygen throughout the body. In the U.S. more than 2 million Americans - 1 in 12 African American carrying the sickle cell trait, and an estimated 100,000, have the disease. Sickle cell anemia also affects people whose ancestors come from South America, Central America, Cuba, Saudi Arabia, India, and Mediterranean countries such as Turkey, Greece, and Italy.

Robert Mackey is a former NFL Linebacker with the Houston Texans, and is the founder of Lydia W. Smith Foundation, named to honor his mother. Mackey is also the CEO/Chief Designer of J-Zemar Premium Brand, an urban contemporary clothing line that focuses on luxury garments for the athletic body type.
